Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information Tahoma Ventures LLC, doing business as CourtConfident ("CourtConfident," "we," "us"), collects when you use our service, how we use it, and the choices you have. It is part of our Terms of Service. The short version: we collect what's needed to prepare and file your case, we share it with the court because that's the product, we use trusted providers to run the service, and we never sell your information.
1. What we collect
Case information you provide. Everything you enter during intake: your name and contact details, the other party's name and address, what happened, dates, amounts, and the documents we generate from it (your court form and demand letter). Your case story may include information you consider sensitive — we treat all case information with care, and we only use it to provide the service. Account information. Your email address (required — it's how we reach you about your case) and, if you choose to opt in, your phone number for text updates. Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. We keep records of your transactions (amounts, dates, status) and a payment-method token that lets us charge the Court Acceptance Fee when the court accepts your case, as described in our Terms. Signature records. When you sign your court form by typing your name, we record your typed signature, the date and time, and your IP address. This is your legal signature record. Usage and technical information. How you move through our site (analytics), device and browser information, and error logs that help us fix problems.
2. How we use it
• To provide the service: prepare your documents, file your case with the court, process payments, and keep you informed of your case status. • To communicate with you: transactional emails and (if you opted in) texts about your case. • To improve the service: aggregate usage patterns, error diagnostics, and — importantly for our accuracy — learning from court rejection patterns so future filings are more likely to be accepted. • To meet legal obligations: records retention, responding to lawful requests, and fraud prevention. A note on AI. Parts of our intake use artificial intelligence to understand your description of what happened and to check that your case type matches your story. Your case information is processed by our AI provider (Anthropic) under commercial terms; it is used to provide the service to you.
3. Court filings are public
When we file your case, the information in it goes to the court — that's the service. Court filings are generally public records. Your name, the other party's name, and your claim details become part of the court's file, governed by the court's rules, not ours. We have no control over court records once filed.
4. Who we share information with
The court and its e-filing systems. Your case is filed through certified court e-filing infrastructure (Tyler Technologies' system, and equivalent systems for certain courts). This is the product working as described. Service providers who run our platform, each receiving only what its function requires: Stripe (payment processing), Supabase (database and document storage), Clerk (account authentication), Resend (email delivery), Twilio (text message delivery, if you opt in), Anthropic (AI processing during intake), Google (address lookup during intake), our hosting providers (running the application), and our analytics and error-monitoring providers (usage analytics and diagnostics). Process servers, if you purchase our optional service-of-process offering — they receive what's needed to serve the defendant. Attorney referrals, only if you ask. If our intake determines your case needs an attorney and you choose to submit your contact information for a referral, we share it for that purpose. We never do this without your explicit request. Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect rights and safety. We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
5. Text messages (SMS) — your opt-in data
If you opt in to text updates: • We use your phone number solely to send you case status notifications. • Message frequency varies with your case activity. Message and data rates may apply. • We do not share or sell your phone number or SMS consent data with third parties or affiliates for their marketing purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties. • Reply STOP any time to stop texts. Reply HELP for help. Opting out doesn't affect your case or your emails.
6. How long we keep information
Case records are retained after your case concludes — court filings create legal and financial records (signatures, attestations, payments, filings) that we keep for audit, dispute, and legal-compliance purposes, for up to seven years. Analytics and technical logs are kept for shorter operational periods. If you cancel before filing, you may request deletion of your case information, subject to the records we must keep (payment and refund records, consent records).
7. Security
Case data is stored with access controls and encryption in transit and at rest through our infrastructure providers. Payment credentials never touch our servers (Stripe-hosted). No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your case information as what it is: sensitive.
8. Your California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the right to: • Know what personal information we collect and how it's used (this policy, plus you can request your specific data); • Access a copy of your personal information; • Correct inaccurate personal information; • Delete personal information, subject to legal retention exceptions; • Opt out of sale or sharing — not applicable in practice: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the CPRA; • Non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below. We'll verify your identity (we'll use your account email) and respond within the timeframes the law requires.
9. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies for sign-in sessions and product analytics. Analytics help us understand where the intake confuses people so we can fix it.
10. Children
CourtConfident is for adults. You must be 18 or older to use the service (California requires small claims plaintiffs under 18 to proceed through a guardian ad litem, which we don't support). We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll notify you by email before they take effect. The policy in effect when you use the service governs that use.
